Exercise 1 – Airbus SMS

In this exercise you will go through a basic gap analysis questionnaire about the Airbus SMS. Work in the allocated groups to go through this CASA Gap Analysis checklist.

15 minutes to complete the exercise.

Exercise 2 – Interoperability

Here you will consider the Airbus SMS elements, plus a few extra labels. Work in allocated groups to give a visual presentation to represent how the elements might fit together/work together. The elements are found here.

Exercise 3 – Risk management

Airbus have been given the contract to upgrade the navigation system of the MRH90 to incorporate ADS-B. In your allocated group, consider 3 hazards and complete the attached basic Risk Management Plan which follows the ISO 31000 process.

Exercise 4 – Safety leadership

Discuss in your allocated groups:

• What are safety leadership Traits?
  • What qualities do safety leaders possess?
  • ‘A safety leader is someone who is…?’
  • Usually these will be one word adjectives – aim for 7-10
• What are safety leadership Principles?
  • What behaviours to safety leaders demonstrate?
  • ‘A safety leader is someone who always…?’
  • Try to make this a short sentence – aim for 3-5
• What are the most effective visible leadership actions?
• What is the action plan for Mr Big Mouth and Ms Shy below?
