Formal Assessments

Formal assessments for this course consist of:

  • Group assessment completed in class
  • Individual assessment completed in class and as home work during the week
  • Post Course assessment.

All assessments must be completed to determine if the appropriate level of competence has been achieved in each of the core competency areas.  Access to course notes is allowed during these assessments.

Students need to demonstrate an understanding of risks that may be managed include:

  • commercial relationships
  • economic circumstances and scenarios
  • human behaviour
  • individual activities
  • legislation
  • management activities and controls
  • natural events
  • political circumstances
  • new technology.

BSBRSK501B – Manage RiskThe scope considered when taking on a Risk Management project could include an existing issue, a specific business area or a specific business function such as:

  • operational activity
  • financial management
  • OHS
  • governance
  • external environment
  • internal environment
  • whole organisation.

Inclusive relevant parties could include all staff, senior management, specific teams, business units or experts.  Research involved could be data driven, derived information, document review, public consultation or lessons learnt from other projects/activities. The tools and techniques used to identify hazards involved in risk are covered in Element 2.1. and the analysis (likelihood and consequence), evaluation, options to treat the risk and actions plans are covered in Element 2.2.

The use of 31000:2018 Risk Management – Principles and Guidelines is fundamental to managing risk.  The required skills and knowledge includes ;

  • communication and literacy skills to consult and negotiate, to prepare communications about risk management, and to encourage stakeholder involvement
  • organisational and management skills to plan and implement risk management processes
  • problem-solving and innovation skills to find practical ways to manage identified risks.
  • Knowledge of legislation, codes of practice and national standards, such as:
    • duty of care
    • company law
    • contract law
    • environmental law
    • freedom of information
    • industrial relations law
    • privacy and confidentiality
    • legislation relevant to organisation’s operations
    • legislation relevant to operation as a business entity
    • organisational policies and procedures, including:
    • risk management strategy
    • policies and procedures for risk management
    • overall operations of organisation
    • reasonable adjustment in the workplace for people with a disability
    • types of available insurance and insurance providers.
