Safety Manager competencies (from AC 119-01 v1.1)

The SM’s qualifications and attributes may include the following:

  • understanding safety management principles
  • a level of operational experience related to the product or service provided by the organisation
  • a technical understanding of the systems that support operations or the product/service provided
  • interpersonal skills
  • analytical and problem-solving skills
  • project management skills
  • oral and written communications skills, and
  • an understanding of human factors.
